Sheva Alomar was born into an impoverished family situation in a small factory town situated in Africa. This particular town being home to Umbrella Plant 57.

Sheva Alomar nacque in una povera famiglia di una cittadina industriale africana. La cittadina in questione era sede dello Stabilimento Umbrella 57.

As with most factory towns, the plant was the lifeblood of the town, bringing in much needed revenue and steady employment for its populous. Almost 80 percent of the town’s adult population was employed at the factory in some facility, including Sheva’s parents. While the pay was low by most nation’s standards, it provided a steady income for the townspeople and a happy childhood for Sheva.

Come nella maggior parte dei centri urbani di questo tipo, lo stabilimento era essenziale per la cittadina, offrendo un reddito più che mai necessario e un'occupazione stabile per la popolazione locale. This happiness was short-lived however.

While only eight years old, Sheva’s peaceful life was brought to an abrupt end by the sound of sirens erupting from the factory.

As the sirens pierced the air, an ominous plume of black smoke poured out of the factory.

Even as a child, Sheva knew something was terribly wrong. With dread in her heart she ran toward the factory.

Arriving at the factory, she soon discovered the entrance blocked.

In place of the kind old man who used to stand guard at the entrance, strange adults in protective suits were everywhere. Their faces hidden by masks. Sheva could not understand what was happening.

Al posto del vecchio gentile che una volta stava di guardia all'ingresso, strani uomini avvolti in tute protettive e con il volto nascosto da maschere erano ovunque. Sheva non riusciva a capire cosa stesse accadendo.

“I realized years later that they were wearing anti-biohazard protective gear. They were part of Umbrella’s special forces.”

She may have not understood the muffed voices emanating from beneath those masks at the time, but the assault rifles they leveled at her more than made their intentions understood. The country was not a very stable place to begin with, and near her town resided members of a large anti-government guerrilla army. Although only a child, Sheva know all too well the violence that often accompanied those with guns.

Per quanto all'epoca non capisse necessariamente le voci attutite provenienti da quelle maschere, la bambina comprese perfettamente la minaccia rappresentata dai fucili d'assalto puntati contro di lei. Il paese non era di per sè particolarmente stabile e nei pressi della cittadina risiedevano i membri di un nutrito manipolo di guerriglieri antigovernativi. The adults in the village that remained were promptly executed by those gunmen.

Sheva was spared this same fate thanks to the vigilance of a neighbor who was able to get her back to her parent’s home unnoticed.

Thus began the longest night of Sheva’s life. Crippled by fear, she could only wait and pray for her parents return. The night passed and a new day dawned, but still they did not return.

Ebbe così inizio la notte più lunga della vita di Sheva. Paralizzata dal terrore, non poteva che aspettare e pregare che i suoi facessero ritorno. Passò la notte ed ebbe inizio un nuovo giorno, ma ancora nessuna traccia dei suoi genitori.

As night on another day fell she sensed a presence outside her home. Unable to contain her relief and joy, she ran to the door to greet her parents.

Con il calare della notte del secondo giorno, la piccola avvertì la presenza di qualcuno sulla porta di casa. Incapace di contenere gioia e sollievo, corse ad accogliere i suoi.

As she swung the door open, crying aloud with joy, she was soon met with disappointment and confusion.

For at the door, were not her parents rushing to embrace her, but her uncle, with a look of shock and horror painted upon his face. His words crushed any hope she had left...

“Your parents are dead. There was an accident at the factory.”

Taking anything of value left in the house, her uncle then took Sheva to live with his family. Taking her away from the only home she had ever known.

Spogliata la casa dei pochi oggetti di valore rimasti, lo zio portò Sheva a vivere con la sua famiglia, costringendola a lasciarsi alle spalle la sola casa che avesse mai conosciuto.

Her life with her uncle would be brief.

La vita della bambina con lui non sarebbe però durata a lungo.

Not only was her uncle’s family extremely poor, but he also had seven children of his own to care for. Even though Sheva was a blood relative, he probably never would have come for her if he hadn’t thought he would receive financial compensation from the factory.

Non solo la famiglia di suo zio era estremamente povera, ma l'uomo aveva sette figli suoi a cui pensare. Benchè Sheva fosse sua parente, probabilmente non sarebbe mai venuto a prenderla se non avesse pensato di ricevere un risarcimento da parte della fabbrica.

That compensation never came. Umbrella never gave out any payments. And soon, her aunt and uncle were unable to feed her.

Life was hell for Sheva, not only was she on the verge of starvation, she yearned to be with her parents again. In her grief, she became fixated on the notion that they were still alive.

As the day passed, this belief grew so strong to the point where she could think of nothing else. She knew she had to find them.

So one night as the moon bathed the savanna in silver, Sheva ran away from her uncle’s house and headed back to her hometown and the life that was stolen from her.

Così, una notte in cui la luna inargentava la savana, Sheva fuggì dalla casa dello zio e fece ritorno alla sua città natale e alla vita che le era stata sottratta.

The thought of her parents drove her on.

Era il pensiero dei suoi genitori a spronarla.

But the expansive savanna is a harsh environment for one so young and small. During her second night, she began to feel the effects of malnutrition. Unable to find food, Sheva soon collapsed.

Ma la sconfinata savana è un ambiente davvero ostile per una bambina indifesa. Durante la seconda notte, Sheva iniziò a risentire degli effetti della malnutrizione e nell'impossibilità di trovare cibo, collassò ben presto.

A night in the savanna is not a quiet affair. The sound of animals plodding along, beasts howling at the moon, insects chirping and buzzing about, and the dry wind soughing through the grass. Sheva considered them all with wonder. She had grown up in a town and was unaccustomed to her new surroundings.

La savana di notte non è di certo silenziosa, pervasa com'è dai rumori degli animali di passaggio, di bestie che ululano alla luna, dal frinire e ronzare degli insetti, dall'arido fruscio del vento fra l'erba. Sheva ascoltava meravigliata poichè era cresciuta in città e non era abituata a ciò che la circondava.

Through the cacophony of strange noises, Sheva picked up a sound that was quite familiar to her. She heard the low rumbling of an engine and the sound of tires cracking over the dirt.

In quella cacofonia di suoni sconosciuti, Sheva ne distinse però uno familiare: il rombo profondo di un motore e il suono dei pneumatici sulla terra battuta.

A truck pulled up next to Sheva and a stranger got out of the passenger side and spoke to her. If she replied to him or not, she couldn’t recall, but the man picked her up and placed her in the bed of the truck.

Un furgone si fermò accanto a Sheva. Dal lato passeggeri uscì uno sconosciuto che le rivolse la parola. Lei non è in grado di ricordare se gli abbia risposto o no, ma l'uomo la prese in braccio e la depose nel lettino preparato all'interno del furgone.

The man that found Sheva was an anti-government guerrilla fighter. He provided her with food, shelter, and a place to call home. Unfortunately for Sheva, this good turn was accompanied by some bad news.

L'uomo imbattutosi in Sheva era un guerrigliero antigovernativo. Fu lui a offrirle cibo, riparo e una casa. Sfortunatamente per Sheva, questo colpo di fortuna si accompagnò ad alcune brutte notizie.

She was told that the incident at the Umbrella factory was not an accident. That the factory manufactured bioweapons and Umbrella was carrying out the final test on one of its newest weapons at the dilapidated factory.

Le venne spiegato che l'incidente alla fabbrica della Umbrella non era stato un incidente, che la fabbrica produceva armi biologiche e che la Umbrella aveva utilizzato il vecchio stabilimento per il collaudo finale di una delle sue ultime armi.

The regular employees who worked there were unaware of what Umbrella was actually creating, and they paid for it with their lives, including Sheva’s mother and father…

I semplici operai che lavoravano in loco non avevano idea di cosa la Umbrella producesse in realtà, un'ingenuità che costò loro la vita. Fra loro vi erano anche la madre e il padre di Sheva...

After concluding the test, Umbrella took measures to conceal the entire affair. With the assistance of the government’s army they destroyed the factory along with the entire town, effectively wiping the town Sheva had called home off the map.

Dopo aver effettuato il test, la Umbrella fece in modo di occultare tutta la vicenda. Con l'assistenza dell'esercito governativo distrusse la fabbrica e l'intero circondario, cancellando dalla faccia della terra la cittadina natale di Sheva.

At this news Sheva was filled with rage. She hated Umbrella and blamed them for her parent’s deaths, and she hated the government for just rolling over at Umbrella’s behest.

A queste notizie Sheva fu preda di una rabbia sconfinata. Iniziò a odiare la Umbrella che considerava responsabile della morte dei suoi, e anche il governo che aveva ceduto senza opporsi alle richieste della Umbrella.

It was at this moment she decided to join the guerrillas in their fight against the government.

Fu allora che decise di unirsi ai guerriglieri nella loro lotta contro il governo.

Sheva started out by doing laundry, cooking meals, and taking care of other chores. After only a few years with the guerrillas, she was given her first gun. She doesn’t like to talk about her time with the guerrillas. Perhaps the memories are too painful, or maybe she’s too shamed of what she did there.

Sheva iniziò col lavare i panni, cucinare e svolgere vari compiti. Dopo appena qualche anno con i guerriglieri, si vide consegnare la prima pistola. Sheva non ama parlare del periodo di tempo trascorso con i guerriglieri, forse i ricordi sono troppo dolorosi, o forse prova troppa vergogna per la sua condotta di allora.

One of her main duties with the guerrillas was to go into town and purchase supplies for the group.

For seven long years Sheva stayed with the guerrillas.

Sheva rimase con i guerriglieri per sette lunghi anni.

By this time she was a teenager, and had spend most of her known life with the guerrillas. Perhaps due to her age, when she went into town, the townpeople never suspected her of being a guerrilla fighter. It could be for this very reason that she was the one they sent.

Alla fine di quel periodo era ormai un'adolescente e aveva passato con loro la maggior parte della sua vita. Forse a causa della sua giovane età, quando si recava in città nessuno mai la sospettava di essere una guerrigliera ed è probabile che la mandassero proprio per questo motivo.

It was on one of these occasions while she was in town that a man approached her. He looked like a local, but spoke with a strange foreign accent. Handing her a piece of paper and speaking in a hurried voice, he stated:
“Read this. If you believe what it says, come to the church in the back alley in two hours.”

Fu in occasione di una di queste spedizioni in città che venne avvicinata da un uomo che, malgrado avesse l'aria di una persona del posto, parlava con uno strano accento straniero. Passandole un pezzo di carta, le sussurrò rapidamente:

After speaking these words he disappeared into the crowd as quickly as he had appeared. Sheva turned the paper over in her hand, and her eyes were drawn to one word - Umbrella.

Dopo aver pronunciato queste parole, l'uomo scomparve fra la folla con la stessa rapidità con cui era apparso. Sheva girò il foglio di carta che aveva in mano e gli occhi le caddero su una singola parola: Umbrella.

It was the same pharmaceutical company whose selfish aims took her parents from her. If that incident had never happened, perhaps her life would have been different.

Si trattava della stessa società farmaceutica i cui egoistici obiettivi l'avevano strappata dalle braccia dei suoi genitori. Se quell'incidente non fosse mai accaduto, forse la sua vita sarebbe stata diversa.

The message on the paper said that the guerrillas were planning on using bioweapons to conduct a large-scale terrorist attack that would overthrow the government. Umbrella was going to make a deal with the guerrillas to provide them with the bioweapons. The man wanted Sheva’s help in stopping the deal from going through.

Il messaggio spiegava come i guerriglieri intendessero ricorrere ad armi biologiche per condurre un attacco terroristico su ampia scala, in grado di rovesciare il governo. La Umbrella avrebbe stipulato un accordo con i guerriglieri, fornendo loro le armi biologiche. L'uomo voleva che Sheva lo aiutasse a boicottare la stipula dell'accordo.

At first Sheva thought it was a government trap, but deep down she knew the note spoke the truth. When asked how she knew, she had this to say:
“My country was strongly influenced by France, and many government officials spoke in a French patois. But this man was different. I couldn’t place his accent at the time, but somehow I knew I could trust him.”

Dapprima Sheva pensò che si trattasse di una trappola del governo, ma nel profondo del cuore sapeva che il messaggio diceva la verità. Quando le venne chiesto come avesse fatto a capirlo, rispose:
"Il mio paese ha subìto una forte influenza francese e molti funzionari governativi parlavano un dialetto francese. Ma quell'uomo era diverso. All'epoca non ero in grado di identificarne l'accento, ma in un modo o nell'altro sentivo di potermi fidare di lui".

Sheva followed her instincts.

She went to the church and met two men there.

Si recò nella chiesa, dove trovò due uomini ad aspettarla.

One of them had given her the note earlier. The other wore a suit with no tie and said that he was from the U.S. government.

Uno era quello che le aveva passato il messaggio in precedenza, l'altro portava un completo senza cravatta e le disse di essere un rappresentante del governo statunitense.

What the man in the suit wanted seemed straightforward enough - the apprehension of the representative from Umbrella. From what he said, this particular person held the key to causing an irreparable blow to Umbrella. But in order to arrest him, they needed Sheva’s help. As long as they got their man, they wouldn’t do anything to her or her fellow guerrillas.

L'uomo del completo fu piuttosto chiaro nello spiegare quel che voleva, vale a dire la cattura del rappresentante della Umbrella. A suo dire, tramite la persona in questione sarebbe stato possibile assestare alla Umbrella un colpo irreparabile. Tuttavia, per arrestarlo avevano bisogno dell'aiuto di Sheva. Even if they did not succeed in arresting the man in question, they promised not to turn her or her companions ever to the authorities.

Anche se non fossero riusciti ad arrestare la persona in questione, promettevano di non consegnare alle autorità nè lei nè i suoi compagni.

The man in the suit’s offer seemed credible, but could she betray those who had been like a family to her? The man seemed to understand Sheva’s apprehension, so he asked her one simple question: “Don’t you want to see Umbrella punished for what they’ve done?”

L'offerta dell'uomo dal completo sembrava credibile. Ma poteva forse lei tradire coloro che avevano fatto le veci della sua famiglia? L'uomo sembrava capire il dilemma di Sheva e le fece una semplice domanda: "Non vuoi che la Umbrella venga punita per i suoi misfatti?"

Sheva quickly nodded her head.

Sheva annuì rapidamente.

“That’s why we selected you. But if you want to help us fight Umbrella, then you are going to have to leave your so-called friends.”

"E' per questo motivo che ti abbiamo scelta. Ma, se vuoi aiutarci a combattere la Umbrella, dovrai lasciare i tuoi cosiddetti amici."

“And then what? What’s in it for me?”

“Look around! You know those guerrillas you are with aren’t doing this for some greater good. They’ll do anything to topple the government, including things you know are wrong. Help us, and you can finally do some good for the people of your country.”

"Guardati intorno! Sai benissimo che i tuoi compagni guerriglieri non agiscono per il bene comune... Farebbero qualsiasi cosa per rovesciare il governo, anche cose che sai essere sbagliate. Aiutaci, e potrai finalmente fare qualcosa di buono per la gente del tuo paese."

“And what makes you think a 15-year-old girl can help?”

"E cosa le fa pensare che una ragazzina quindicenne sia in grado di aiutarvi?"

“Some day you’ll learn that age matters very little. A person’s life is not defined by age, but by the choices they make. You have the chance to fight for something here that goes beyond just you, something that affects the entire world.
Can you really walk away when so much is at stake?”

"Un giorno capirai che l'età ha ben poca importanza. La vita di una persona non dipende dalla sua età, ma dalle scelte che compie. Tu hai la possibilità di combattere per qualcosa che non riguarda solo te, ma il mondo intero.

Sheva would never forget those words...

Three days later the special forces team arrived at the location where the deal was taking place. Sheva had left the door to the building unlocked, and she wore a wire so the team on standby could hear what was taking place.

Tre giorni più tardi, la squadra delle forze speciali arrivò sul luogo dove si stavano svolgendo le trattative. Sheva non aveva chiuso a chiave la porta dell'edificio e portava addosso una microtrasmittente, così da consentire alla squadra in attesa di seguire il dipanarsi degli avvenimenti.

The operation was a success. The target from Umbrella was quickly apprehended and taken away.

Sheva and the guerrillas were taken to the American Consulate, there to be released two days later with no charges pressed, just as promised. Recognizing Sheva’s abilities, or perhaps moved by pity, the man in the suit offered Sheva the chance to start life anew in America.

Mentre Sheva e i guerriglieri furono portati al Consolato statunitense, per poi venire rilasciati due giorni più tardi senza che venisse loro mossa alcuna accusa, proprio come da promessa. With nothing left in Africa for her, Sheva decided to take him up on his offer.

Visto che l'Africa non aveva alcuna prospettiva, Sheva decise di accettare la sua offerta.

Shortly after arriving in America, Sheva’s high intelligence and drive quickly became apparent. She surpassed any and all expectations, even learning English to a native level in a mere six months. Within two years of arriving in the U.S. she had enrolled at a university.

Al suo arrivo in America, la grande intelligenza e motivazione di Sheva si fecero rapidamente evidenti. La ragazza superò qualsiasi aspettativa, imparando addirittura a parlare l'inglese come una madrelingua in appena sei mesi. After graduating with high honors from her university, her legal guardian (the main in the suit) suggested that she join the newly formed BSAA to help others as she had been helped. Umbrella had already been dismantled many years prior, but Sheva had not let go of her hatred toward them and all others like them.

After completing basic training, she was assigned to the unit led by Josh Stone. There she trained with his unit for eight months, learning everything she would need to know to survive in the field. After the completion of her training, she was hand picked to become a BSAA agent. She is currently involved in operations throughout the world.
